How bonus shares work in Nepal
Bonus shares are additional shares issued to existing shareholders at no cost, in proportion to their current holdings. A 20% bonus means you receive 20 extra shares for every 100 you hold.
The total value of your investment doesn't change immediately after bonus shares are issued — the market price adjusts downward (the ex-bonus price) to reflect the increased share count.
In Nepal, bonus shares are subject to a 5% tax on the value of the bonus shares received (calculated at face value of Rs. 100 per share for most listed companies).
