How dividend income is calculated in Nepal
In Nepal, cash dividends are calculated on the face value of the share — not the market price. If a company declares a 15% dividend on shares with a face value of Rs. 100, each shareholder receives Rs. 15 per share before tax.
The government levies a 5% Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on cash dividends, so the amount credited to your MEROSHARE account is the net figure after this deduction. For Rs. 15 gross, you receive Rs. 14.25 net per share.
Dividend yield measures how much income you earn relative to the price you paid (or the current market price). A stock trading at Rs. 800 with a Rs. 14.25 net dividend delivers a net yield of approximately 1.78%.
Dividend formulas
Gross per share = Face Value × (Dividend Rate ÷ 100)
Net per share = Gross per share × (1 − 0.05)
Net yield = (Net per share ÷ Market Price) × 100
