What is Weighted Average Cost (WACC)?

When you buy shares of the same company multiple times at different prices, your average cost per share is not a simple average — it's a weighted average that accounts for how many shares you bought at each price.

For example, if you buy 100 shares at Rs. 400 and then 200 shares at Rs. 500, your simple average would be Rs. 450 — but your actual weighted average is Rs. 466.67 because you bought more shares at the higher price.

WACC is what Mero Share uses in your WACC Report CSV. It's also the cost basis used for calculating Capital Gain Tax (CGT) in Nepal when you sell shares.

Formula

WACC = Total Cost ÷ Total Quantity

Total Cost = Σ (Quantity × Price) for each purchase
